ABOUT First Nation Collegiate Education Society
First Nation Collegiate and Métis Nation Virtual School and College has been
established to support Métis Nation members in the area of Métis control of Métis
education through programming which has greater links to their language, their
culture, their traditions, morals and values. While the above is a primary objective
of MNVSC it will also serve to provide Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students
with full academic coursework and academy instruction in basketball and hockey
at the K-12 level and beyond. Finally, the MNVSC will be revitalized to offer Post-
Secondary Instruction leading to certificates, diplomas, and degrees in seven
faculty areas and three polytechnic trade areas.
The direction of Métis Nation Virtual School and College will be to utilize education
as a means to create ongoing economic prosperity for Indigenous students and
Non-Indigenous students through innovative models for education which contain
the best of educational teaching and learning from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and
post-secondary programming with trades and workforce training programs added
to this innovative programming for students 19+ years of age. Programming
which involves both “Hard Skills” (hands on learning and training) and “Soft Skills”
(Alberta Program of Studies curriculum). The changes to the Métis Nation Virtual
School and College’s program will evolve over the next three years and be
administered by a Tri-lateral partnership between the Town of Fairview, Treaty 8,
and the First Nation Collegiate Education Society, at the pace and rate they wish it
to happen.
