ERLINE HARMSE

Educational Assistant Diploma - 2004

What brought you to Portage College and your program of study?

As a new immigrant in 2002 I wanted to go into a program that helped people. I started the Rehabilitation Practitioner program at first and then since it had many similarities with the Educational Assistant Program, I transitioned over after a year. I loved the location of the campus, the small class sizes....the student life. It was very exciting!

What was your favorite memory while attending Portage College?

We had ALOT of fun while I was a student, but my curling career was a highlight. Though we didn't necessarily always win- we had fun. We got to compete against some great curlers from other colleges and it was a great experience.

What was the colleges greatest impact on your personal and professional life?

Finishing at the College with great marks and amazing support, it was absolutely perfection to be hired at the College in the formerly known Learning Assistance Centre (Now SLS). I got to experience helping other students succeed and meet their goals. The College taught me that we are all here to help each other.

What are you up to now?

I am STLL at the College, now working in the Alumni Department under Community Relations. Almost 22 years with the Voyageurs!

What else do you want to share (e.g. Memorable trip; If you had a superpower; Favorite food or coffee shop; Personal and professional interests; Awards and recognition; Other milestones)?

I hope to continue my work at Portage...and my children who have all been here since day one in my belly are starting to come through the doors....as students. They have all volunteered and attended events...we are a Portage FAMILY!
